The Journey of the Rock Crystal Pendant Collection

Some things are made. Others are simply found. To me, the difference matters.

The crystals at the heart of this collection weren’t manufactured to fit a design. They were discovered by chance, patiently revealed by nature and noticed by someone who has spent years learning to see what most of us would simply walk past.

My good friend Svetlana lives in Verbier and is one of the qualified Cristallières in Switzerland. For centuries, Cristallières have searched the Alps by hand, reading the mountains with knowledge passed down through generations. They don’t blast the mountains or mine them. They walk, they observe and they wait

On one of these journeys, after hours high in the mountains, Svetlana found something lying half-hidden beneath the earth. A beautifully formed crystal, perfectly imperfect and unlike any other. No two crystals are ever the same. Each one carries its own character, shaped over millions of years by the mountain that created it.

That thought has always fascinated me. Every crystal already carries millions of years of history before I ever begin designing around it. When the crystals arrived at our workshop, my job wasn’t to redesign nature, but to celebrate it. I wanted each setting to feel as though it belonged to its crystal, almost as if the two had always existed together.

Each setting begins life as a hand-carved wax model, individually sculpted around its crystal. Because every crystal is unique, every carving is unique too. Once complete, the wax is cast in recycled silver or recycled gold before being carefully finished by hand in our workshop. Look closely and you’ll notice the metal isn’t perfectly smooth. It has an organic texture inspired by the mountains themselves: weathered, beautifully imperfect and shaped by time

When the settings were finished, I packed a handful of them into my suitcase. There wasn’t a grand plan behind it. I was simply going on holiday to Ibiza and Mallorca and, like most designers, I rarely travel without jewellery. You never know when the light might be too beautiful to resist.

At the time, I knew very little about Es Vedrà. In fact, I hadn’t even realised it was quietly sitting in the background of some of the photographs. Only afterwards did I discover the stories surrounding it. For centuries, people have been fascinated by this extraordinary rock rising from the Mediterranean Sea. Some speak of its energy, others simply admire its beauty. Whatever you believe, there is something undeniably captivating about it.

By coincidence, crystals formed over millions of years beneath the Swiss Alps had found themselves basking beneath the Mediterranean sun, with another extraordinary natural wonder quietly standing behind them. Nothing had been planned, yet somehow they looked completely at home there. It almost felt as though their journey had naturally continued.

It reminded me that jewellery is never really finished when it leaves the workshop. In many ways, that’s when its own story begins. Jewellery travels with us. It becomes part of our adventures, our celebrations, our everyday lives and our memories. These pendants seemed to begin collecting their own before they had even found their owner.

These are not simply pieces of jewellery. They are ancient treasures, shaped by our planet long before any of us existed. Whether you see them as keepsakes, talismans, heirlooms or simply beautiful objects, each one carries a story that began millions of years ago.

Mine became part of that story when I had the privilege of designing around them.

The next chapter belongs to whoever wears one.
