Whats your SIGNATURE?
Now is everything
My dad and I came across a picture some time back of a tattoo, that was a watch with NOW written on the face. We were both inspired to get tattoos like this as a daily reminder that now is all we have and to not let the if’s and but’s of the past and concerns of the future affect day to day life. I’m not to keen on being tattooed but having an awesomely crafted bangle by Daniella with the word NOW inscribed on it was the next best thing;)
I have got a series of short films up my sleeve. The series is called “Passengers of the Sea” which are short films about artists inspired by the ocean. I will be releasing the first one soon so keep an eye out. My feature surf/travel film ‘The Salt Trail’, will finally be released soon which, has been a long time coming. I completed the film over a year ago but since the completion, I have been crazy busy with other projects but the time has come, to prioritise ‘The Salt Trail’ and make it available to everyone.
BUCKET LIST No 1?
MOST INSPIRING PERSON YOU’VE MET SO FAR?
Working as a documentary filmmaker I have managed to meet so many inspiring people in all different fields but my parents have inspired me more than anything. In the past three years, both were diagnosed with Cancer. When people so close to you get diagnosed with life threatening illnesses, there really isnt much to gain apart from a lesson. They have inspired me to keep fit, keep healthy, keep young and to re-establish my love for every moment I have been gifted in this life. There is no cure for cancer but prevention is the best thing we can do and they have inspired me to work on that. If you can’t learn from the sad things in life then they happened for nothing so I think its important to take a lesson from every life experience whether it be good or bad.
Surf (Riding waves on many different crafts) and Snowboarding
FAVOURITE CITY? WHY?
Cape Town // Its the place for me where everything feels right. Its a city surrounded by a wild coastline offering waves of all shapes and sizes, hugged by an amazing range of mountains that can keep you occupied 24/7. I grew up with a special group of friends, so throwing them into the mix of waves and mountains is just about all I need in life… as well as my amazing girlfriend Sunnie;)
WHAT WOULD YOUR 3 PIECES OF ADVICE BE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
Be healthy, Don’t smoke, question everything.
I can’t nail down a best really. I feel so lucky to have lived the life I have lived. I have spent the past ten years exploring this amazing planet trying to figure it all out. I have travelled to over 40 countries meeting countless amazing people who have all played a part in shaping my experiences but if I could generalise on an experience I would have to say its travel.
Japans, Nuclear spill
Dad and Sunnie (Sunnie is my girlfriend who keeps me happy and healthy so she’s definitely of hero status;)
SCARIEST/BRAVEST THING YOU’VE HAD TO DO?
There’s nothing I have ever “had” to do but I would say the scariest thing I have decided to do, would be riding 15 ft waves in G-land Indonesia, which is a very fast barreling wave that breaks over a couple of feet of razor sharp coral reef. We surfed it as big as it gets, so times got a little uncomfortable when freak sets started to appear on the horizon, sending the hole line up scratching to safety.
